Animal Health  

 

Annual health checks are important to ensure the continued comfort of your horse and early recognition of potential problems which often makes them easier and less intensive to treat.  

 

This is particularly important for geriatric horses (over 15 years of age).  Often a health check and vaccination is combined with an annual dental examination and treatment.   Our health check includes a full clinical examination; auscultation of the heart, respiratory tract, musculoskeletal system and gastrointestinal tract, evaluation of the mucous membranes and capillary refill time,temperature, assessment of body condition, feet and skin and an eye and oral cavity examination.  

 

We can also complete a blood test to check internal organ function, electrolyte and protein levels, test for anaemia or evidence of inflammation or infection in the body.  

 

If any abnormalities are present then any preventative treatments or diagnostics can be discussed, for example parasite management, nutrition, hoof care, supplements, anti-arthritis medicationand vaccination.
